Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has said he will not resign as the chairperson of the Labour and Social Welfare committee in the National Assembly.
He said he was validly elected by members of the committee from both the opposition and the Jubilee Party.
“I will not resign as the chairperson of Labour and Social Welfare committee. According to the standing orders, committee chairmen are elected by members of the committee, not anyone else. They should now give us space to serve the electorates,” he said in Eldoret town, Wednesday.
“For heaven sake we are Kenyans and we can hold any position and I wonder why we are being denied yet we were elected,” he added.
This comes after MPs Keter (Labour and Social Welfare Committee), Silas Tiren (Agriculture), David Bowen (Environment and Natural Resources) and Alex Kosgey (Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives) were elected as chairpersons of various committees of Parliament against the wishes of the Jubilee party.
