Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar on Wednesday vowed to prosecute individuals involved in the mismanagement of county resources if he’s elected governor.
According to Omar, individuals involved in such vices must be brought to book.
Omar who is eyeing the county top seat currently held by Governor Hassan Joho said he already knows which people he will go after, including those involved in the county’s garbage collection menace.
He further accused the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) of failing to take action on claims of misuse of resources in Mombasa County.
"I have worked in the public service for 20 years and I have never been involved in any malpractice, so I do not expect that to be a problem in my government. We must serve the people diligently," Omar said as quoted by the Star.
"I even know who I will prosecute once I am governor," he added.
The Wiper secretary general who spoke during the launch of his gubernatorial manifesto in Mombasa said he wants to revolutionise the county by fostering development.
"I want to help re-organise county investments and then we can start working on other development projects," Omar said.
He plans to reduce land rates as well as address the taxation system in his quest to ease doing business in the county and improve people’s living standards.
"We want to remove all tax and tariffs on regular food stuff. It does not make sense to raise rates in Kongowea because it ultimately increases the price of food for common mwananchi," he said.
The former Kenya National Commission on Human Rights vice chair said his administration will all be about citizen participation, because “nobody knows better than another.”
