The lawmaker argued that the country has no money to conduct a referendum for the constitutional amendment to be done.“There is no money to waste to make changes in the Constitution. I will resign if the Constitution is amended since I don’t want to be part of those selfish leaders pushing for constitutional changes, for their own selfish gains,” he said. The MP asked NASA leader Raila Odinga to retire from active politics instead of pushing for a referendum ahead of the 2022 general election.“Raila has fought for this country we can’t deny that but his old age is misleading him in pushing for constitutional changes. The country cannot afford to have a three-tier government since it will be a waste of time and resources,” added Wainaina.Wainaina called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to ensure no money is wasted to hold a referendum to create unnecessary posts in the Constitution. He urged MPs to ignore Raila’s calls for a referendum and instead focus on delivering quality services to the people in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
