IEBC chief executive Ezra Chiloba. innovationweek.co.keIndependent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chief executive officer Ezra Chiloba has expressed willingness to quit his job if the National Super Alliance (NASA) provides evidence proving his collaboration with Jubilee in planning to rig the August general election.
Chiloba said allegations by the opposition that IEBC plans to rig the August poll in Jubilee’s favour were false and asked NASA leaders to prove the claims other than make provocative statements in political rallies.
“I have been hearing that I met the president at State House. It is obvious they will talk, but the truth is IEBC officials will carry out their responsibilities professionally,” he said at a morning radio interview on Wednesday.
“Anybody with issues with IEBC officials should provide evidence and we will consider taking the next step. Table evidence and stop threats.”
On June 20, opposition leader Raila Odinga sounded alarmed claiming the electoral body was collaborating with the Jubilee administration to rig the August poll in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s favour.
Raila, in particular, accused IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba of working in cahoots with Jubilee to rig the election.
“Chiloba, please stop assisting Jubilee to rig the elections. We can’t accept Al Ghurair to print ballot papers. There are plans to print excess ballot papers to manipulate the polls,” he said then.
He maintained NASA would not allow Dubai-based Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing Company to print ballot papers for the August election.Jubilee officials, however, refute the claims. Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale says the opposition allegations are meant to cause confusion in the country after NASA leadership sensed defeat.
