Cord co-principal Moses Wetangula has made it clear that he will support Raila Odinga in his 2017 presidential ambition.
This comes following a spate of criticism after Wetangula earlier this week attacked Odinga, laughing off his (Raila's) presidential ambitions in what appeared to be indications of an imminent split in the party.
However, Wetangula now says that he was misquoted regarding Raila’s plan to vie for the presidency come 2017, and says that he did not mean that Raila should retire from politics.
The Bungoma Senator has said he meant that just like Raila and Kalonzo Musyoka, he also wants the coalition ticket for the presidency.
“Cord has no cracks. Raila is a presidential candidate, Kalonzo is a presidential candidate, Weta is a presidential candidate and whomever is picked to fly the Cord flag we will support him,” Wetangula said.
Wetangula added that what the three principals are doing is drumming support for themselves ahead of the picking of the Cord flag bearer to face the Jubilee coalition in the next year’s polls.
In a previous incident, Wetangula was quoted in the media sensationally telling Raila to step down for him or Kalonzo Musyoka because he (Raila) "has failed three times" trying to clinch the top seat.
