It is now official that Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma will defend his seat, as an independent candidate, come August 8, general elections.

The strong ODM party supporter and first Kisumu county chief said his name will be on the ballot, as he faces tough competition from his senator, Prof Peter Anyang' Nyong'o.

Ranguma's move comes after Nyong'o was declared winner of the disputed ODM primaries, which earlier, saw both candidates declared winners, with different number of votes.

"My name will be appearing on the ballot  in the next general elections, as Jackton Nyanungo Ranguma. So there will be no more guess work. I want the people of Kisumu to know this,'' Ranguma told the press, Thursday.

He added that he will support ODM party leader and NASA presidential flag-bearer's election, saying he still support the Opposition.

Ranguma noted he had consulted his supporters, and as a partner of the Orange party, he believes in social democracy, just as ODM is, and so, will remain partners all through.

"I will continue to campaign for party leader Raila Amolo Odinga, and support his philosophy, for transformation of Kenya,'' he said, flanked by various supporters.
