Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir has said that he will support women empowerment projects in his constituency so that women can contribute to the economic growth of the constituency.
Nassir said that women were the pillars of the constituency development initiative and they should be fully included in all economic empowerment programmes.
Nassir said that already various projects have been initiated in the constituency including small businesses for different women groups and more projects geared towards improving the lives of women in Mvita will be launched.
Speaking in Mombasa on Wednesday, Nassir said that more awareness on how women can access loans from Uwezo fund, the Women enterprise development fund and the Shariff Nassir foundation will be the focus so that women groups benefit from the fund hence improve their economic well being.
He appealed to women in his constituency to form more groups and apply for the funds so that they start and expand their businesses.
“Our old ‘Skills mtaani’ programme enabled many women to launch their income generating activities and we are closely monitoring their progress,” he added.
He said that the women will also be advised on how to manage their finances so that they do not fail in expanding their businesses into bigger income generating activities.
“We cannot move ahead economically if we ignore our women in Mvita constituency, we will walk with them until they overcome various economic challenges,” he added.
Nassir said that working together with women empowerment organisations among them the ‘EmpowerHer’ women organisation will enable more women acquire various skills and indulge in business activities.
He appealed to women in his constituency to seek support and advice on how they will involve themselves in business activities and fight economic hardships.
