Uasin Gishu County Executive nominee for the co-operatives and enterprise development Esther Mutai has blamed culture and corruption for the collapse of cooperative societies in the county.

Speaking when she appeared before the county assembly for vetting on Wednesday, Mutai noted that the culture of looking at cooperatives fund as not belonging to anybody was the reason as to why locals don't take them seriously.

She pledged to use the vast experience she has acquired over several years to help turnout fortunes in the once vibrant sector.

"Cooperatives can be of benefit to our people if we work on changing their mindset and this is what I will seek to do if given this job," Mutai said.

"With my experience of working in various institutions that handle cooperatives I believe I will be able to make a difference and revive this sector for the benefit of our people," she added.

Vetting for the CeC nominees concludes on Thursday with three appearing before the County Assembly Committee on appointment.The three are Eng. Nelson Maritim (Lands), Mary Njogu (Water and Environment) and Everlyne Rotich (Health Services).
