Former Mombasa Mayor Taib Ali Taib has said that he will take a pay cut if named the next Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) boss.
Speaking when he appeared before the nine-member IEBC selection Panel, Taib said that he is a successful businessman cum lawyer and taking up the post will consume a great part of his time.
The ex-mayor also termed the post as one of the most important in the country since it entails security and stability.
“I don’t know of any other job in this republic of ours, the positive outcome of which is the direct safety of my family than the chair of IEBC,” said Taib, as quoted by Citizen digital.
Taib also said that this position plays an immense role when it comes to the unity of this nation during and after elections.
“The IEBC has the potential for both a safe, peaceful and secure election and the continuance or the change of the persons in power, and it is capable of horrendous violence that can rip our country apart," he added.
Taib was the first candidate to be interviewed as the panel seeks to replace Issack Hassan.
