More than 30 litres of illicit brew were destroyed by police officers on Wednesday night in Ndithini Location, Masinga sub-county in Machakos County.
Ndithini location Chief Makau Mwangangi together with community policing officers and Administration Police (AP) ambushed a brewer who escaped before he could be arrested confiscating more than 30 litres of illegal alcohol which was being made by the suspect.
“We have managed to get more than 30 litres of illegal brew which we have poured out and carried few litres as evidence. Although the suspect has managed to escape, the police have launched a search for him and he will soon be arrested and arraigned in court,” said Mwangangi.
He urged the residents to support police officers and report any local brewer to the police to put an end to the unlawful activity, which according to him has hindered education among many youths in the area who prefer drinking the brew to going to school.
“Government is determined in ensuring that students remain in school and those who are promoting brewing and consumption of the illicit brew will face the law accordingly,” added Mwangangi.
He however appealed to youths from the area to embrace education, since according to him that was the only way of ensuring that they would have better standard of living at present and in the future.
