The Nyumba Kumi Initiative on Friday night launched a manhunt and arrested a middle aged man notorious for brewing illegal alcohol.

The officers from Kisooni village in Mung’ala location Machakos acted on hint given by the members of the public.

The search saw the confiscation of 240 litres of illegal brew popularly dubbed as ‘kangara’, more than 13 litres of chang’aa and more brew in the process of preparing.

Confirming the incident, Mung’ala area Chief Jackline Mbuva stated that, “With the help of community policing officers, we have arrested the man who is one of the most notorious brewers. As we speak, we have already handed him to the police officers at Machakos police station.”

Mbuva added that to discourage and destroy the illegal activity completely, she ordered pouring of all the alcohol and destroyed all the equipment used in brewing the alcohol and destroyed all the tanks the accused uses to store the liquor.

The residents preparing and selling of the illegal alcohol have been cautioned to cease before the activity before the authority catches up with them.

“We will not stop the manhunt until we have completely done away with the illegal brewing in our location. Those notorious people who think they can hide we well catch up with them soon. We should put the health and life of our people as a priority. This unlicensed alcohol have blinded and even killed people in our country and we will discourage its brewing at all costs,” said Mbuva.

The accused has been put in cell and is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.
