Eldoret Water and Sanitation Services Company (ELDOWAS) Operations Director Wilson Tuigong has warned residents against illegal water connections.

Speaking at a local hotel in Eldoret town on Thursday, the Director stated that the water company is losing billions annually as a result of illegal water connections.

He said that it is a crime for residents to connect water to their households without the permission and direction of the company.

“We have launched an audit and investigation to establish and deal with residents who have illegal water connections,” said  Tuigong.

He added that the company is incurring huge costs in terms of repairing burst pipes and equipment which occur as a result of illegal connections.

The Operations Director called upon residents to be patriotic and report cases of illegal connections.

On the same note, the Water Company has given 60 days notice to defaulters of water bills.

Tuigong asserts that the company is owed over Sh400 million in arrears by its customers.

The Director said that connections will be cut for customers who will not have cleared their bills once the waiver window expires.
