A man claimed to be an illegal gun holder was arraigned before an Eldoret court on Friday after being accused of threatening to shoot his neighbour.
According to the prosecution, Sammy Gichuhi and his wife Tessie Nzula Musyimi threatened to shoot their neighbour John Kogo at Eastleigh fish market in Eldoret after a disagreement on May 24, last year.
The county officer in charge of gun licensing William Sifuna told the court that the accused after being arrested was told to produce the gun licence which he did. But after scrutiny, it was established that the licence was fake.
"We scrutinized the document only to find out that the accused has never applied to be a licenced gun holder," Simiyu told the court.
He said the gun, a Beretta pistol, is a powerful weapon that can fire bullets rapidly.
He said Gichuhi's case will be an example to individuals in the county who prefer using illegal means to acquire guns.
Simiyu said police will be watchful in Eldoret town and the larger Uasin Gishu County to ensure lawlessness never prevails.
Kogo reported the matter to police after his life was threatened, prompting law enforcers to arrest the accused.
Kogo said he was threatened by Gichuhi after a property ownership disagreement.
