Police in Kisii on Wednesday morning managed to arrest 20 illegal immigrants, allegedly from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Congo after they were discovered hiding in two rented rooms in Jogoo estate.
The incident that left many in a shock was successfully carried out by Immigration Officers following a tip off by members of the public.
Principal Immigration Officer Dennis Nyabuti confirmed the incident, adding that the men in their twenties were arrested after they couldn't prove how they were in the country.
“We have also found out that they do not have proper travel documents, meaning they are in the country illegally and they will be arraigned in court as soon as possible” said Nyabuti.
The officer also expressed concern over the rising number of foreigners in the area flouting their visa requirements.
“We have had foreigners come into the country as tourists but then go ahead to get into businesses without applying for permits. It is a menace that we are determined to deal with because this can lead to a security threat,” said Nyabuti
The 20, five Congolese, three Burundians, three Rwandese and four Ugandans will be arraigned in court on Friday.
