A 50-year-old woman will serve a five-month jail term if she fails to pay Sh11,000 fine as ordered by a Nakuru court on Wednesday.
Chief magistrate Liz Gicheha ordered Ms Nancy Nombi to pay the fine with an alternative of the sentence after she found her guilty of selling illicit brew.
The accused was charged with selling five litres of chang’aa without a licence at Nakuru’s Rhonda estate on June 2 this year.
The chang’aa was also presented before the court by the prosecution team.
In her mitigation, she pleaded with the court to be lenient on her, saying she was the sole bread winner of her family.
However, the magistrate said the punishment was sufficient to deter others from engaging in the illegal trade.
