Police in Molo are on alert over advanced means of transporting illicit brew after it emerged that residents were packing chang’aa and Kangara in sugar bags then use private cars to beat traffic check points.

Speaking yesterday after overseeing destruction of over 10,000 litres of chang’aa and Kangara which was on transit to Molo town, area AP commander Joseph Mwangi said the perpetrators will soon be nabbed.

“The fight against illicit brews is not ending anytime soon but we are not relenting till we ensure that the market is totally free from these outlawed drinks,” he said.

The police boss regretted the fact that the illicit brews were secretly finding their way back in the market bearing in mind the effects it has had on people across the country.

“Let’s not behave like we never saw and read these things from different media outlets. The consequences are very severe for them to be assumed,” he noted.

Area chief Samuel Mbwai cautioned residents operating illegal distilleries saying that an operation will be launched and those arrested will face the law.

“It seems the first operation never yielded the desired results because some people have devised clever ways of remaining in this illegal business, we are coming for you,” Mbwai affirmed.

The businessmen are said to be using milk cans and tomato crates to transport the illicit brews from villages to Molo town before being distributed to Nakuru, Naivasha and other major towns in the neighbouring counties.
