Brewers and sellers of illicit brew in Thika Town and its environs have been asked to immediately stop the trade or face the wrath of the government.
Thika Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Tom Anjere said that they are going to ruthlessly deal with illicit brewers and suppliers as they are a hindrance to the government’s development agenda.
Speaking in his office on Saturday, Anjere said that they are going to use the Nyumba Kumi platform to assist them in getting information about the brewers and suppliers, so that they can apprehend them.
“Thika is surrounded by rivers which are used by brewers of illicit brew. We have mapped out the areas where the illegal trade is carried out and we will be carrying out raids very soon,” said Anjere.
The DCC said that they will work with the neigbouring counties of Murang’a and Machakos, to crackdown on brewers who usually operate their business along River Chania and Athi.
“When we carry out raids on these rivers, the culprits ran away and hide in the neighbouring couties. We need cooperation so that we can win this battle,” he said, adding that they are planning on holding joint meetings with security agents from the said counties.
