Following the increased cases, police on Tuesday conducted a massive crackdown on all joints brewing such drinks and their sellers, where they managed to arrest several suspects connected with the vice.

Ruiru OCPD Isaac Thuranira said that the crackdown will intensify, to arrest all those who have been perpetrating this crime, in a bid to wipe them out and curb the trend.

“My officers will carry out investigations to identify all dens and arrest every suspect behind it. We are tired of dwelling on this problem for long. Everyone behind this business should cease forthwith, lest the law catches up with you,” warned Thuranira.

Meanwhile, most women have continued to air their fears of family breakups and decline in birthrates, as their men have indulged in drinking of this liquor.

“Our men have no time for their wives. They wake up in these dens and darkness falls as they still partake of this killer brew. Where will our young girls go? Who will marry them? Quipped Mary Wambui, a resident.

The menace has been a challenge, especially in the entire central region of Kenya, which has claimed many lives in the recent past.
