Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has now said that he is only supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid and not Jubilee Party.
Speaking on Tuesday, the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader noted that Jubilee Party had candidates gunning for elective seats including the gubernatorial position in Machakos and was therefore impossible for him to back Jubilee.
“Thus it is impossible to support a competing party. I only want to work with leaders with whom we share common ideals,” Mutua said.
Mutua further clarified that MCC was neither backing Jubilee nor NASA.
“We as a party [MCC] have agreed to support President Uhuru’s bid for a second term, but we are neither in the Jubilee nor NASA coalitions. We are independent,” he said.
He also revealed that MCC was poised for senior government positions in the event President Kenyatta recaptures the Presidency.
“We will benefit from appointments to senior positions in the national government,” he observed.
