Peter Kenneth has dismissed claims that he’s a spoiler for his Jubilee Party rival Mike Sonko in the race for Nairobi governor.
Kenneth, who’s seeking the seat as an independent candidate after decamping from JP, said there is nothing he’s done to warrant such a tag, and instead challenged his critics to let city voters choose the best candidate among them come August 8.
“Even though I’m not tribal but if we go by the numbers, then he’s the one spoiling for me. In actual fact, he’s the one spoiling for me… because the biggest ethnic bloc in Nairobi is Kikuyu followed by the Luhya, so who’s spoiling for whom? What does he bring on the table?” posed Kenneth.
He said he’s ready and willing to serve all Nairobians because he’s got the passion to transform the capital city.
He said Sonko failed in his oversight role for the period he’s was the county senator and thus is not the solution for city residents as their chief executive.
“There’s a lot of suffering for the people of Nairobi. I agree with the president that [Governor Evans] Kidero has failed but Sonko also failed in his oversight role,” said the former Gatanga MP during an interview on Citizen TV on Wednesday night.
With regards to Uhuru’s offer for a state job so that he can step down for Sonko ahead of the August 8 polls, he said he cannot disappoint his supporters after coming this far.
The 2013 presidential candidate said he respects the president but was quick to note that he should let Nairobians elect leaders of their choice.
He also dismissed Kidero as a “consistent failure” who needs to account for the funds he’s received from the central government aimed at improving service delivery.
