Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has said he does not fear running against Governor Hassan Joho in next year's general election.
Omar, who has declared interest in the Mombasa gubernatorial seat, said despite calls from a section of leaders and supporters to drop his bid, he will vie for the position come 2017.
"Supporters and other leaders from the Coast region have been asking me to drop my governorship bid. I want to make it clear that I will be in the race to unseat Joho in 2017. Mombasa County needs good leadership. I do not fear Governor Joho since we will compete maturely,” said Omar.
Speaking on Wednesday during an interview on Radio Jambo, Omar said every leader has a right to vie for any political seat he or she might be interested in.
"Some people say that I will lose to Joho but voters will be the ones to decide when that time comes. I will lose fairly if the elections are conducted in a free and fair manner,” he said.
The Wiper Party secretary general noted that he is out to represent the people of Mombasa County, which he said was suffering from water shortage, poor roads, corruption and insecurity.
