Ngilu on Wednesday said she will not fall to Kuria’s intimidation, adding that the ban on charcoal and sand harvesting in not negotiable.

Speaking at Itoleka Girls High school in Kitui, Ngilu said she will not fall to Kuria’s political intimidation and threats.

The Kitui governor said the ban on charcoal and sand harvesting is legal, adding that whoever is feeling aggrieved by it should go to court.

“Let Moses Kuria know that I am not afraid of him, he can  come with whatever weapon he wishes  to use on me but  know that the charcoal and sand harvesting ban is irreversible,” Ngilu said.

Ngilu  claimed she was being persecuted for advocating and implementing measures that aims to safeguard the environment.

The governor who appeared before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) on Monday over incitement to violence allegations vowed to stand firm in enforcing the ban.

Ngilu said the ban was for the interest of Kenyans and future generations.

On Tuesday evening, Kuria sent Ngilu a ‘deadly’ message in regards to the charcoal ban.

Kuria in a Facebook post that was immediately pulled down criticized Ngilu’s alleged involvement in torching of vehicles found ferrying charcoal in Kitui.

The controversial lawmaker said, “Whereas Governor Charity Ngilu may have a point on the issue of charcoal trade, asking the locals to take the law into their hands is illegal, unconstitutional and primitive. There must be mechanisms’ to enforce any national and county laws within the confines of the law.”

“We need to abide by the law. In the meantime,  I am asking all charcoal and sand traders to pass by my office and pick up few machine guns before you travel to Kitui County,” the post read.

Kitui politicians have defended Ngilu maintaining that she did not incite anyone.

The leaders have vowed to fight any intimidation and threats against the Kitui County boss.
