Senator Kimani Wamatangi has rubbished claims by his rival, former Limuru MP George Nyanja, that he is an absentee senator.
Wamatangi says that critics labelling him an absentee senator want to drag him in propaganda.
Speaking at St Matia Catholic Church in Thika on Sunday, the senator said he is always on the ground listening and addressing issues facing Kiambu locals.
“It is ridiculous and malicious for some people to label me as an absentee senator,” he said.
Wamatangi said that for the last four years he has been interacting and working with the people directly.
He also said that he has performed his oversight role as required by the constitution.
Wamatangi said that he will not be distracted in his work by propagandists.
The senator said that he has pushed for various laws and police aimed at promoting devolution not only in Kiambu but across the country.
Last week former Limuru MP George Nyanja claimed that Wamatangi is an absentee senator.
He said that Kiambu people do not know whether they have a senator or not.
He accused Wamatangi of dodging locals and only being seen on TV.
“He (Wamatangi) is only seen and heard on Television,” he said during an interview with KBC Channel 1 on Wednesday last week. Nyanja is eyeing to unseat Wamatangi in 2017. He lost against senator Wamatangi in the 2013 general election.
The aspirant says that he is now well prepared to send senator Wamatangi packing in the forthcoming 2017 general elections.
Nyanja just like Wamatangi will be hoping for a Jubilee Party ticket ahead of the 2017 general elections.
