Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi has denied that his supporters engaged in acts of hooliganism in Imenti South earlier Saturday as Governor Peter Munya campaigned in the area.
He maintained that he was not anyone’s project, which was a directed response to Governor Munya, who had defined him as Deputy William Ruto’s project.
Youths who were alleged to be Kiraitu’s supporters lit tyres and blocked access to areas of Imenti Sounth Highway, after they heard Munya was on his way to the Nkubu Market.
However, police cleared the road and made access for Munya to make his was to the market.
“Even before Peter Munya came to politics I was there, he cannot to pretend to defined me for the people of Meru. The people know where I am, I am a man of vision, development, peace,” said Kiraitu.
The county will be one of the most-watched counties during the August 8 election and beyond for two main reasons.
First, Senator Kiraitu Murungi, who was king maker in the 2013 gubernatorial contest, is now going for the throne himself against an equally popular and determined incumbent, Mr Peter Munya.
Second, the county, together with neighbouring Tharaka-Nithi, is a key pillar in Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential game plan for 2022.
