Education CS Dr. Fred Matiang'i has said that he is not to be blamed for the ongoing school unrest where students have been setting ablaze dormitories, libraries and classes.
Appearing before the senate led by Kirinyaga Senator Daniel Karab, Matiang'i said that he should not be blamed for the students' unrest in the country, instead the stakeholders should sit and find an amicable solution to curb students unrest.
"The unrest in schools is due to the changed system of running the schools. Change in the fight against exam cheating, visiting days in schools and holding prayer rallies is all behind the whole unrest. Drug abuse among students has also contributed to the unrest in schools. I should not be blamed for the school fires," said Matiang'i.
When asked why he visits schools abruptly without notice, he said that no one should oppose him visiting schools since his visits to schools is aimed to determine the performance of teachers.
Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale accused him for making unnecessary visits to schools something he said has led to the ongoing unrest in schools across the country.
