The senator said that he deserves another term in office because he is not only a performer but also strong enough to lead the people of this part of the nation if given the mandate.
Haji, 77, is one of the former long-serving provincial administrators. He was also a three-term Ijara MP before he contested for the senatorial seat.
The lawmaker rubbished claims that he is unfit to hold public office because of his age.
“In Somali, we have a proverb that says a homestead that does not have an elder with grey hair should get one, even if it means buying. Old age is not a disability or disease,” Haji said, as quoted by Star.
Haji spoke to the press in his office after he held a meeting with elders from Aulian clan and Samawadhal clan. He also launched a scathing attack on his rivals for being against his leadership, asking them to look for platforms where they can share their ideologies and not propaganda.
“Those accusing me, including my opponents, should direct their grievances elsewhere,” he said. He further said that he has played his oversight role very well, adding that he deserves re-election.
“I have also written countless letters to the governor to point out what I thought was mismanagement of county resources.”
