Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has said he is ready to battle it out with other aspirants for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket ahead of the August General polls. Speaking during a meeting with aspirants from all the six Coast counties, Joho said he is well prepared to face other aspirants during primaries as a show of fairness within the party. “Even I will love to pass through a nomination process and I encourage anyone keen to contest for the ODM ticket against me to come forward. It will be free and fair,” said Joho, as quoted by the Nation. Joho also asked aspirants eying different elective posts to avoid engaging in wrangles, arguing that it was wasting the little time they have to campaign as they seek to rise to power. His sentiments were reiterated by ODM leader Raila Odinga who said the party will not impose leaders on the people, adding that all aspirants are entitled to contest for different seats in the forthcoming general poll. “We do not want to impose candidates on our people. I want to promise those who will lose in the nominations that they will be offered jobs once we form government,” he said. Raila also downplayed allegations that governors will influence the nominations.
