Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has reiterated that he won't stop until the Coast region breaks away from Kenya.
The second-time county boss said he was ready to die in the quest for self-rule in the region.
"The entire Coast region is pushing to break away from Kenya and, as one of the leaders from the area, I am ready to pay the ultimate price to free the Coast people," he said, speaking in his office on Monday.
In November, Kingi, his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho, Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo, and 15 lawmakers said they had started talks towards secession in protest against President Uhuru Kenyatta’s continued leadership.
"We are pushing for self-rule because Coast has been sidelined in terms of development," Kingi noted.
President Kenyatta has, however, scoffed at calls for secession, warning that stern action will be taken against anyone threatening the country’s peace and stability.
"We will not entertain any language, any action, that threatens our territorial integrity," said Kenyatta last month.
