Opposition chief Raila Odinga on Monday promised Kenyans he will deliver them from the burden of dictatorship championed by the Jubilee administration.

Raila who spoke after taking 'oath' of office at Uhuru Park Nairobi said Kenyans must wake up to reality and fight for democracy.

"I said it and I will continue saying it, my duty as a leader is to give direction and the direction. I will not get tired until the dictatorship that is returning to the country is fought and defeated," the former premier said.

Raila was 'sworn in' after months of speculation on whether he will be inaugurated or not coming at a time the government piled a series of threats including his arrest if he dared take 'oath'.

The event attended by thousands of Kenyans went on smoothly as although it was 'boycotted' by running mate Kalonzo Musyoka.

Kalonzo according to sources within NASA will be 'sworn in' at a later date.

NASA co-principal Moses Wetangula did not attend the event as he is out of the country in France on official duty.
