Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has expressed willingness to invite former Machakos gubernatorial contender Wavinya Ndeti for a cup of tea in his office.
Mutua was successfully re-elected after fierce campaigns that drew re-known politicians including the NASA leader Raila Odinga who campaigned for Ndeti whowas contesting on a Wiper ticket and President Uhuru Kenyatta who supported Mutua on his Maendeleo Chap Chap outfit.
"I am wiling to host my sister Ndeti for a cup of tea, elections are over and the time before us should be utilized in working together in bettering the lives of Kenyans," Mutua said.
He spoke during an interview with a local FM radio on Wednesday.
Mutua has been battling a court case in which Ndeti challenged his re-election on grounds that he bribed voters to cast votes in his favor ahead of the August 8 polls.
Machakos town exploded into songs and dance on February 9 after Machakos High Court upheld Mutua's election.
Justice Aggrey Muchelule ruled that the petition lodged by Ndeti lacked merit.
Governor Mutua, who is now serving his final term, welcomed the verdict and declared his interest in running for the presidency in 2022.
Mutua polled 249,954 votes against Ndeti’s 209,233 in the August 8 General Election.
"Wavinya is a good leader, she has been an MP and her input in developing Machakos cannot be washed away," Mutua said.
