Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has said that he would not mind to take a further pay cut should the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) suggest so.

Speaking in Matungulu sub-county, the County chief welcomed SRC's decision to slash salaries for senior government officials, noting that leaders should remain selfless in the execution of their mandate.

“That’s why I support Serem in slashing the salaries of the country’s top earners including politicians,” he said.

“We cannot afford to have a country of a few millionaire’s and millions of poor people,” he added.

SRC's chair Sarah Serem released the new pay structure earlier in the week which could see governors earn Sh924,000 from Sh1,056,000.
