Former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile on Wednesday caused a stir when he sensationally claimed he can academically outshine Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.Kalembe, who dissolved his Tip Tip Amani party on September 2016 to join President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party challenged Joho to sit for an exam with him and prove he is indeed a graduate. The Ministry of Education and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) are currently investigating Joho's academic background to establish whether the county chief holds genuine academic certificates.“He claims he holds a degree yet he got a D- in Form Four, how is this possible?” Kalembe asked during an interview on Wednesday.“I did not study up to university, but let me tell you if the two of us sat for an exam, I will beat him,” he said. There are claims that Joho presented a forged 1992 examination result slip with a C+ mean grade to gain entry into university to pursue a Bachelors degree in Commerce. At the beginning of the Education ministry's probe, Joho took pride of the D- he scored in the 1993 KCSE examination saying failure pushed him to succeed. He said accusations that he forged a KCSE certificate to join university are baseless allegations coined by his political opponents out to tarnish his name ahead of the August polls.“Why would I want to forge my own certificate?” he asked while addressing the press in Mombasa on March 27.“I am a holder of a D- but I have changed that to progress. I will progress and you will not stop me. If you do not do well, there are many ways to further your education,” said Joho.He insists he joined university on merit.Joho's certificate subject has been a topic under discussion among Kenyans who are his supporters and critics on equal measure. He claims investigations into his academic background are efforts mounted by senior members of the Jubilee administration who are jealous of his growing popularity in the country.
