Former Cabinet minister Sam Ongeri has denied claims that he has joined the ODM.
Last week, Ongeri threw his weight behind the re-election of ODM Governor, James Ongwae of Kisii County, accusing a section of the Jubilee campaign team in the region of political witch hunt by wrongly targeting the county boss.
The UN Ambassador said they are fighting Ongwae because he is smart and focused and will thus support him no matter what happens.
“There are some people trying to make Ongwae’s work difficult and we know them. They do not deserve our ears and time has come for you to know they mean nothing to us,” he said then.
However, the ex-minister now says he is still in Jubilee and his support for Ongwae does not mean he’s defected to the Raila Odinga led party.
“I am still in Jubilee and I have not defected. I will, however, disclose my political stand between March and May next year,” he said as quoted by the Nation.
Ongeri who spoke during a harambee at Masimba Seventh-day Adventist Secondary School insisted to campaign for Ongwae’s re-election.
He said there is nothing in the Constitution that bars him from working with Ongwae even though he’s from a different party.
Ongeri at the same time dismissed the Omogusii unity caucus being spearheaded by Kisii Senator Chris Obure.
He said the caucus comprises individuals who are desperate to exclude other leaders who have divergent views in a bid to monopolise the Jubilee’s presence and power in the region.
Ongwae on his part said Ongeri was a role model in regional leadership.
