Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has stepped up efforts to secure the opposition's presidential ticket, saying he is the best candidate to defeat President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The former Vice President called on his co-principals, Raila Odinga of ODM and Ford Kenya's Moses Wetangula, to support his 2017 presidential bid and ensure he wins the next polls.
“I have been sacrificing for a long time and this time round I wish my friends in Cord put me first. I am the only candidate who can defeat Jubilee in the 2017 general elections,” he said.
Kalonzo was speaking on the first day of Wiper’s tour of the Coast region where he called on the people of the Coast region to support Wiper as it seeks to consolidate its support base in the country.
He said as the President he will reconcile all communities and foster national unity by inculcating a sense of nationhood and belonging among all Kenyans in order to achieve political stability and grow the economy.
Kalonzo stated that unlike Jubilee which decided to dissolve and form one party, Cord will allow each party forming the coalition to grow at the individual level while consolidating support for the next elections.
He was accompanied by Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and by a group of Wiper legislators. Omar called on the people of Coast region to support him in his bid to become the next Mombasa governor.
