The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) has said the lack of rains in the nation is associated with increased cases of corruption and immorality.
Speaking on Saturday at the CIPK offices in Mombasa, CIPK Organising Secretary Sheikh Mohamed Khalifa said that Muslims from different parts of the nation will on Thursday come together to pray for rains and peace in the country.
“This will be our day to reflect and seek forgiveness. A day when we shall pray for change, the runaway corruption, attacks and all evil things that happen because some of us have not been praying,” said Khalifa, as quoted by The Star.
“Prayers in Mombasa will be held at Makadara Grounds. We urge other imams countrywide to conduct the special prayers,” he added.
Khalifa decried increased corruption in the country, citing the alleged mismanagement of Sh5 billion in the health ministry.
He said the nation is losing a lot of money and religious leaders cannot continue to bury their heads under the sand.
“The country is being looted, and it is time to act,” he said.
