Just a day after attacking EACC and other officials over their inaction on corruption, Imams now want President Uhuru Kenyatta to disband the commission and arrest the commissioners.
The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya want the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) disbanded over its alleged failure to fight graft in the country.
Speaking in Mombasa on Wednesday, the imams said disbanding EACC will create room for the composition of a better body. They said such a body will help fight corruption that has cost the country billions of shillings.
Led by their organising secretary, Sheikh Mohammed Khelifa, the Imams claimed that the institution is failed despite having all powers to prosecute those implicated in graft.
The Imams allege that EACC is only protecting selfish and corrupt individuals instead of delivering on its mandate.
Saying that the EACC’s failure is a disgrace to the sovereignty of the people of Kenya, the leaders called for the arrest of EACC commissioners and all other top security officials mandated to fight corruption in the country.
They also called on the government to involve them in fighting corruption.
With Uhuru’s pronouncement indicting those in charge of fighting corruption, it is likely a fire has been lit under the commissioners and the security officials to deliver or go home.
