On Tuesday IEBC commissioner Roselyne Akombe's travel plans were brought to a hault as she attempted to depart from Jomo Kenyatta
International Airport (JKIA).According to reports, Dr. Akombe was barred by immigration officers as she planned to depart to New York after receiving orders from above.
“The officers just told the commissioner to talk to Director of Immigration Gordon Kihalangwa for any inquiry,” an eye witness told the Standard.
Akombe had already received her boarding pass but could not remove her luggage from the aircraft.IEBC Chairman had sent Dr. Akombe on official business to New York but the commissioner was forced out of the VIP Lounge.Following a tweet by the IEBC this morning, Dr. Akombe was cleared to travel and had continued with her flight after receiving an apology from the immigration department.“Dr. Akombe who is traveling to the US for an official meeting was delayed at JKIA by official who has since apologized. She returns on Sunday,” the tweet said.
