Drama, accusations and counter accusations engulfed Mosobeti Redeemed Gospel church on Sunday as a group of rowdy youth accused a man of God of deceit and immorality.
Trouble started when a group of youth entered the church in the course of church service and interrupted the session by demanding the pastor to explain accusations by a group of female worshippers who had complained of intimidation by the preacher.
On failing to find the solution, they started beating the pastor and ordered him to walk out of the church as worshippers watched in disbelief.
The pastor, who was identified as Joseph Momanyi was however rescued by a section of worshippers who sympathized with him before police officers from Gesima intervened and escorted him out of the compound.
According to Wayne Ondieki, the architect of the ouster, Momanyi had been making sexual advances on female worshippers by giving them specific conditions on when to visit him in his residential house.
“We have evidence that he has even defiled some of school girls worshipping here. This has been going for some time and we decided that enough is enough,” he said.
However, some of the worshippers accused the youth of being used by a private developer who wants to grab part of the church compound.
“These claims are null and void. They are accusing the preacher falsely and we know who sent them here to cause chaos. There is a land grabber who wants to seize the opportunity and grab part of the church compound,” said Rebecca Nyakundi, a worshipper.
The preacher was rushed to Keroka District Hospital and consequently admitted. He is said to have suffered severe head injuries.
