Former Kisumu County Speaker Ann Adul arrived at the assembly’s offices on Tuesday morning claiming that she is still in office.
Kisumu MCAs impeached Adul almost three weeks ago, after which she went to court to challenge the move.
She declared that she is still the assembly’s speaker, until the case is heard and determined.
“According to the procedures, the moment a speaker is impeached, they have no business to transact in the assembly until a new one is elected,” Adul said.
“When they impeached me, the assembly ought to have adjourned until they elect a new speaker.”
Kisumu MCAs denied her access to the offices, insisting she stands impeached until the court rules otherwise.
Led by nominated MCA Caroline Ogot, they said Adul has no mandate to run any affairs of the county assembly.
“It is political goodwill that works, you can’t push yourself,” said Ogot.
After the standoff, Adul was forced to leave as county assembly proceedings continued under interim speaker Gabriel Ochieng, the Kondele ward representative.
Ann Adul was impeached on October 22, after Kisumu County MCAs accused her of taking the mace to a police station, among other issues.
