Nairobi County speaker Beatrice Elachi has survived impeachment after a motion supposed to ouster her failed to be tabled before the Assembly.
Waithaka Ward MCA Mr Antony Kiragu Karanja was expected to present the motion before the House on Tuesday for debate but never appeared.
Mr Kiragu had collected 67 signatures against only 43 signatures required for such a motion to be tabled before the Assembly.
John Kamangu Nyumu, who is the deputy speaker adjourned the sittings to Wednesday 2:30 PM, after waiting for some minutes for the notice of motion to be made.
Ms Beatrice Elachi has received pressure to step down following a suspension from the assembly’s service board on Monday.
The other members of the board cited lack of confidence in her leadership.
“We as the board have lost confidence in her and she is no longer our chairperson, and we have decided that the vice chair should act now as the chair,” said Mr Guyo who is the Majority Leader.
Ms Elachi has been accused of abuse of office after reports emerged of her flying on a first class ticket against the law. Mr Guyo has called upon the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to investigate the speaker.
