On Tuesday, members of two different camps differed over the division of land at Ndumano village in Mathira East.
According to reports, one group disputed the subdivision of the colonial village and proceeded to stop government surveyors from dividing the land on the basis that it was public land and should not be given to individuals.
This follows a directive issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta regarding title deeds that were to be issued to locals of the village. However, some members alleged that the land was reserved for public utilities such as schools, cattle dip, market, and sub-chief's office.
Magutu chief Rose Mumbi assured residents that he will get to the bottom of the issue.
"I was not there so I do not know what exactly happened but I will convene a meeting with the surveyors and Ministry of Land officials so that we can get a way forward," Mumbi sais as quoted by The Standard.
Many residents have aired several complaints over the rightful beneficiaries of the land arguing that government officials and tycoons are taking advantage of the situation.
