Lake Victoria South Water Services Board (LVSWSB) has embarked on implementing the Sh1.6 billion project aimed at rehabilitating the water supply system in Kisii Town.

The project is funded by Germany Bank of Development (KFW) and was launched last year.

Speaking during a review meeting at Kisii governor's office earlier in October, LVSWSB's Rural and Water sanitation manager David Oronje said the project designs were ready.

"This project is important to the Kisii region considering water supply challenges. Designs are ready and we have finalised assessment to help the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company (Gwasco)," said Oronje.

He says the two water management bodies are glad that under devolved system of governance, there are reforms to inculcate a commercial approach in the management of water resources.

Oronje assured residents that the project will be completed in time in order to meet current shortages.

Andreas Holtkotte, the head of irrigation and transport in East Africa for KFW said: "We want to see water supply management managed without political interference. Am glad Gwasco has finalised the recruiting of management personnel and we shall monitor this well."
