The county government of Garissa has been urged to beef up security in Garissa in order to retain teachers posted in the region.
Speaking on Monday in Garissa, Nicholas Oino has urged the national and county government to invest more in security.
He attributed the low number of teachers in the region as a result of insecurity and marginalisation. He also added that for education to foster security had to be enhanced.
This is after the recent announcement of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), to conduct a massive transfer of teachers across the country where Garissa region is optimistic to have an increment on the number of teachers following a shortage.
Oino said the effort will be fruitless if security is not beefed up citing that teachers will not stay for long. He also added that security in the region will see investors invest in key industries such as education and other industries that will woe teachers to the region.
A large number of teachers are unemployed and fear to work in this region for fear of insecurity and its marginalisation.
“Insecurity has brought about marginalisation which has made investors shun investing here. Garissa is a very productive county but the issue of insecurity is dragging it behind, said Oino.
