The device was found near one of the offices in the barracks by a KDF officer who was on patrol.

Experts were called to study the device which is believed to be in the last stages of construction.

According to an officer who declined to be named since he is not authorised to talk to the press, the device must have been planted there by someone with ulterior motives.

“No one knows the motive behind the assembling of this manmade bomb, but military officers have started investigations,” the officer said.

Nakuru County Commissioner Mohammed Birik said that he is yet to get concrete information about the device.

"I am aware about the device being found in the barracks in Gilgil but I have not yet received the full information," Birik said.

He urged residents to maintain calm as they had called experts to investigate further on the device.

"Bomb experts are doing their job and we should wait for them to determine if the device is really a homemade bomb and what intention the people who planted it there had," Birik said.
