Speaking during a tour to open schools which have been renovated in the constituency, Gatanga MP Humphrey Kimani Njuguna (Roho Safi) on Friday said that despite the area hosting Ndakaini Dam, less than 10 per cent of the residents get access to clean drinking water.

“It is ironic that most of Gatanga residents cannot get access to clean drinking water despite being the main source of the water used in Nairobi. If the Nairobi County government will not accept us to share our resources, I am going to make sure that the water supply is cut short and redirected to our county,” he said .

He added that the biggest source of Nairobi water is Thika Dam (Ndakaini) which is fed by Ng’ethu Water Works in Gatundu.

This comes after Kiambu county Governor William Kabogo threatened to cut short the supply of water to Nairobi if the county does not pay for it to his government.

Gatanga residents have been without water for years until the county government stepped in. Most residents in this constituency and other suburbs depend entirely on borehole water and seasonal rivers.
