The deputy president claimed that a number of counties were spending huge amounts of money in litigation and paying lawyers.

In a shocking revelation, he claimed that one county had spent about 100 million shillings to pay a lawyer.

''Number one is both the cost of inter and intra-governmental litigation that is actually at crisis levels. The inter-governmental relations committee in its report tells us that 13 counties have spent 550 million shillings in the last one year to pay lawyers. 13 counties in one financial year. In fact, in one case there is one county that has paid a hundred million shillings to one lawyer,'' Ruto said.

The revelations will come as a great shock to the Kenyan public as the country struggles with crises such as floods over 'lack' of resources.

He called on members of the Senate to swing into action to draft legislation to save counties from huge expenditures on litigation.
