Police in Nakuru say they have launched thorough investigations into Tuesday’s chaos at Salgaa trading centre that saw the county’s only fire engine torched by angry demonstrators.
Speaking to the press at Salgaa on Wednesday, county police commandant Hassan Barua said that those believed to have instigated the chaos will be arrested and charged in court.
Mr Barua alleges that some prominent people incited the residents to demonstrate.
He said that investigations are ongoing into the ugly incidents and that more police are still patrolling the area.
“Police detectives are on the ground conducting investigations into the Tuesday chaos, stern action will be taken against those said to have planned for the violent chaos,” said Barua.
The commandant added that police will not allow the public to use violence as means of expressing their concerns.
He said that the demonstrations are allowed only if they are done peacefully.
On Tuesday, transport and business were paralysed at Salgaa, along the Nakuru-Eldoret road, as a section of residents demonstrated over failure by the Nakuru County government to implement development projects.
The angry protestors barricaded roads as they chanted songs ridiculing Governor Kinuthia Mbugua’s government.
The protestors also reduced down to ashes a fire fighting engine belonging to the county government of Nakuru.
