Kiambu Women representative, Anne Nyokabi, wants the county government to establish a development fund kitty for persons living with disabilities.
The women representative says that people living with disabilities in the county have been neglected.
Nyokabi said that the county government has not put in place measures to address the plight of disabled persons.
“Kiambu government must recognize the rights and welfare of persons living with disabilities,” said Nyokabi.
The women representative noted that disabled persons have been empowered by the constitution and that the county and the National Government must include them in development.
Nyokabi urged disabled persons in the county to come out and demand services from both the county and the state.
She said that time when disable persons were discriminated upon and denied services are long gone.
Nyokabi asked the Kiambu government to further include disabled persons in key committees that spearhead development.
She stated they have a right to be included in development oriented activities.
“Kiambu Governor William Kabogo must ensure that his government includes persons living with disability in development activities,” added Nyokabi.
In addition, Nyokabi urged county MCAs to pass laws that will protect disabled persons.
She vowed to support programmes that will ensure the rights and welfare of people living with disabilities are protected.
