As people seek divine intervention over their lives, most believers have taken steps to exercise their right to worship as recognised in the constitution.
This is the case in Mwembe village, Kisii County where some believers came up with a common goal and had to unite to form a church.
They held a harambee and thus constructed a simple structure and they called it ‘Neno Evangelism Centre’.
The church was not completed as the funds were not enough hence they moved in and without any worry launched the church. The church has less than twenty members including the pastor, John Osoro.
The pastor conducts the services every day especially in the evening hours to reach believers who are from the work places. The church has less than five plastic seats where the pastor has his and the rest are meant for the first come first served. I concluded maybe this was meant to motivate the believers to keep time.
The church is half-roofed and has no walls. The only roofed area belongs to the pastor to avoid the scorching sun as he passes the message to his ‘sheep’. To the shock of many, the church is also used by some goats as a grazing area as it has some grass.
“You do not have to pray in a big church so that God can answer you. No… your faith is the key to the kingdom of God,” Pastor James Osoro says.
He adds, “We do not want to steal money so from believers so that we can build a church.”
Residents of Mwembe village criticise the church as they insult the pastor saying that he is after the people’s money but this has not scared him off as the church is two years old now and the word of God is delivered no matter the conditions.
“Even Jesus Himself was called all sort of names,” he concluded.
