Chiefs and their assistants have been urged to hold public barazas more regularly to effectively tackle social issues affecting residents in their locations.

Speaking to this writer on Friday, November 27, in Kamwangi, Gatundu North Sub-County Commissioner Daniel Nyamiti said that his office had noted that chiefs were slowing down on handling public barazas, which he said is the only way to register the issues affecting residents in the grassroots.

"Public barazas are essential in tackling serious issues affecting the common Mwananchi. I have noted that my chiefs have held less of those meetings this year," he revealed.

"Chiefs need to wake up and intensify on public barazas to ensure they hold at least one in two months. This will help them to submit better reports of the issues affecting the people in their locations. Issues like illicit brew, theft and defilement cases which I have noted are on the increased and should be seriously addressed," he added.

The commissioner claims that many of the chiefs were idling in their offices as the residents suffer, a routine he said must stop with immediate effect.

"I urge them to submit monthly reports early for better analysis before further submission to the county commissioner," he said.
